Windows desktop software, version 2.19
Every visible tree on the tract, measured from the air.
One drone LiDAR flight with five-band imagery becomes a tree-by-tree inventory: a number, position, height and crown diameter for every visible tree, with trunk diameter and volume estimated from models calibrated to your own field plots.

Innovation Summit talk
Six and a half minutes on what the software does, recorded at the Innovation Summit. Formerly presented as Silvalytics.
Measured on Benton Hollow, Sullivan County, NY
28.3 acres, one UAS LiDAR flight.
- 1,865trees mapped
- 66trees per acre
- 182 sfull processing run on a laptop, after the flight
- 80%of canopy LiDAR points tied to an individual tree
- 56 ftmean tree height
- 94 fttallest tree
- 22 ftmean crown diameter
Height and crown diameter come from LiDAR on every tree. Diameter, basal area and volume are model estimates calibrated to the forester's field plots. Species were mapped per crown by the software (species calls are experimental) and 20 trees were field-verified in that run; red maple was the most common at 1,508 trees (81%).
What it does
One run, one inventory.
-
Individual trees
Ground classification, a pit-free canopy height model and watershed crown segmentation. Every LiDAR point is tied to a tree or flagged as ground, understory or between crowns. Each tree gets a number, position, height and crown diameter.
-
Measurements
Height and crown diameter from LiDAR on every tree. DBH, basal area, growing stock and log volumes from Mesavage-Girard tables and taper equations, size classes, per-acre stand tables, stand delineation, harvest and bucking helpers, silviculture prescription notes, and carbon pools with uncertainty. Diameter and volume are model estimates calibrated to your plots.
-
Species (experimental)
Estimated per crown from the five bands plus 16 LiDAR structure features. Every call carries a status: field-verified, AI, low confidence, genus only or unknown. A Northeast US reference library of 957 taxa with 49 cited sources ships with the app.
-
Field calibration
A guided wizard imports your plot tally (Emlid RTK exports supported), matches field trees to crowns, refits the crown and DBH models and the experimental species model, and re-runs the tract. Projects are organized as Project, Site, Plot, Run.
-
Infrastructure
Detects power lines (spans, wires, towers) and buildings, measures tree-to-structure reach in 3D, with include, exclude and delete control and whole-corridor assessment. On one 6.6-acre power-line test plot (Flux): 1 line, 2 spans, 6 wires and a 184 ft tower detected in 140 seconds.
-
Outputs that open in your GIS
GIS layers for crowns and stems, rasters (canopy height, terrain, hillshade, contours, hydrology, canopy cover and gaps), a QGIS project, classified LAS with tree IDs, CSV and XLSX tables, and forestry, carbon, ecology and canopy reports.
Fly, process, calibrate, deliver
Four steps from flight to stand table.
-
Fly
One UAS flight collects LiDAR (LAS, LAZ or COPC) and five-band multispectral imagery (MicaSense) over the tract. Leaf-on if species matters.
-
Process
The Silvalytics app classifies ground, builds the canopy height model, segments crowns and measures every tree. Benton Hollow ran in 182 seconds on a laptop.
-
Calibrate
Import your plot tally. The wizard matches field trees to crowns and refits the diameter model and the experimental species model for this tract.
-
Deliver
GIS layers, rasters, classified LAS, tables, reports and a 3D model the owner can open.
Cruise and flight
The cruise shrinks to calibration plots.
A cruise measures a sample of trees on foot and expands it to the stand. Silvalytics Solutions measures every visible tree from the air and uses your plots to calibrate, not to expand.
The cruise still wins on
- Grade and defect
- Understory and suppressed trees
- Direct DBH with a tape
- Species certainty
- Acceptance in appraisal and legal work
Species calls in the Silvalytics app are experimental.
The flight adds
- Complete coverage
- A position for every tree
- Height on every tree
- Speed
- Repeatability
- Infrastructure clearance
- A 3D record the owner can open
Together, the cruise shrinks to calibration plots. The tally trains the tract's models and the software carries them to every tree.
Who uses it
Foresters first. Owners, utilities and trusts next.
-
Consulting foresters
Fly a tract, calibrate on your plots, deliver a tree-by-tree inventory, maps and a 3D record with the report.
Services for foresters -
Landowners
A map of every visible tree on the property, with heights, crowns and estimated volume, delivered as files you keep.
What a survey includes -
Utilities and corridor owners
Power lines, towers and buildings detected from the same flight, with tree-to-structure reach measured in 3D. Shown so far on one 6.6-acre test plot.
Infrastructure clearance -
Land trusts and agencies
A complete record of a tract, from a flight you can repeat, for stewardship and carbon work.
